Media - Bill on TV and YouTube

Bill has a                              channel with a range of videos covering topics such as Restorative Practices in schools, Evidence Based teaching of Reading and Dylexia.

Bill spoke with ABC3 Kids' News about how young people can deal with the news of the terrorist attacks in Paris. The most imortant thing to make sure young people know when they see incidents played over and over again in the media is that it only happened once and that they are safe.

Bill features in Australia's own documentary that looks at Dyslexia in Australia and what needs to change to support Dyslexic learners as well as lift Australia's concerning reading results. Outside The Square is a triumph - a three part documentary with everything schools need to hear about what works.

In 2021 Bill did a talk for Learning Difficulties Australia (LDA) about the secret sauce of dyslexia intervention - helping students understand and come to terms with their dyslexia. It's as important as knowing how to run an effective intervention.

Bill Reads a case study from his book "A Practical Introduction to Restorative Practices In Schools" on a behaviour management approach called 'affective statements'. Affective statements are a way a teacher can briefly challenge a student about disruptive behaviour while maintaining a relationship with the student

Bill Reads a case study from his book "A Practical Introduction to Restorative Practices In Schools" on a behaviour management approach called Impromptu Restorative Conferencing. This approach involves a teacher asking a few targeted questions to students that get them to think about their decisions. This case study looks at this approach with early years students.

Bill Reads a case study from his book "A Practical Introduction to Restorative Practices In Schools" on a behaviour management approach called Small Group Restorative Conferencing. In this case study a teacher skilfully engages some angry and hyped up middle school boys in a conversation to avert a violent encounter.

In this highly popular video, Bill discusses dyslexia, what effective intervention must look like as well as the teaching of reading in the broader context. Bill also tears up some myths (aka philosophies) about how children are taught to read.

Here's the complete presentation Bill did in September 2020 for the South Australian Department for Education Literacy Guarantee Unit. It's titled 'Teach them as if they're all dyslexic and you teach them all better". At the time over 5000 people from across the globe logged on to watch.
